Some of us spend a lifetime with Jesus. We remember knowing Him from the earliest times of life and now that we are older, we know Him as well as we know ourselves. He has always been that whisper in our ears. He has always shown His love through protection and guidance. He speaks through others and speaks through His words in the Bible. He shows Himself to those who are seeking Him and listening for His voice.

John 10:27 "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."

John 10:14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me."

John 10:4 "When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice."

As we grow older, we should find ourselves speaking with and to Him throughout the day. He should be our constant companion. As the seasons of life change and the decades of life change and as our bodies age and change so should our closeness to the Lord change. We should be able to see those changes.

Just as we watch a baby grow into a toddler, learning how to walk and talk then on to a young child and on to a young adult the changes in us as followers of Christ should be obvious to us and to other around us.

We each should be able to hear the Holy Spirit whispering in our ears and guiding us each day. Things like, "You're doing fine.” “Pray for your friend who is having troubles.” “Give this problem to me and stop worrying.” “Be still and listen.”

II Kings 19:11 – 12 “Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.”

When we stop and listen, we will hear His still small voice. He will keep us going on this path for the days ahead. We know His voice.
