ANOINT: Peace at the Table

Psalm 23:5 "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over."

In Biblical times anointing someone was a sign of hospitality, recognition, and honor. When someone was set apart or consecrated for a holy purpose they were anointed with oil. Many times, there was a medicinal reason for the anointing with certain types of oil. When God anoints us with His oil, He is telling us that we are favored by Him and we are set apart from those who choose not to believe in or follow after Him.

When the oil makers are beginning the process of extracting the oil from whatever tree or plant they are working with they begin to squeeze and crush until tiny drops of plant oil are extracted. Depending on the plant is what the outcome of the oil will be. Olive oil from olives. Lavendar oil from lavender plants. Each herb, plant, or tree will produce that kind of oil. Today we use essential oils for many different purposes many of which bring healing to our bodies. It is amazing that Creator God made plants for human use. That is how much He loves us, provides, and cares for each one of us. He anoints us both physically and spiritually.

When we receive the anointing of oil from the Lord it begins to seep into our spirit. We begin to attain wisdom and knowledge of everything pertaining to life on earth. His anointing oil is something supernatural. God does not squeeze it out of a plant and put it physically on our head. It is a spiritual anointment that He applies to our lives and all glory goes to Father God.

Jesus is called the Good Shepherd and we are His flock. He will make sure we are protected from the evils of this world. He anoints us with His perfectly made oil so that nothing can overtake us and cause us to fall or fail. Can you smell the oil of gladness? The aroma is breathtaking!

Be sure to contemplate what happens after we are anointed by God. Our cup overflows!! Let the Father, Son and Spirit anoint you today then see and feel the presence of Him in your life.
