MEEK: Quiet Strength

Psalm 37:11 "But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."
One of Jesus’s first teachings, the sermon on the mount, he declared “the meek shall inherit the earth” just as the prophet Isaiah had said 700 years earlier in this Psalm.
Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth."
Who are the meek and why would God not only give them the blessings of the earth but also an abundance of peace? It is love. God loves his people who come to him with faith and belief. Those who seek him with all their heart, mind and soul are called his people. Being meek does not mean weakness. Someone who is described as meek is usually quiet and gentle not overbearing or loud. A meek person does not need the spotlight or the trophy. Meekness is actually a sign of great strength and the ability to control one’s own self especially in times of difficulty. Patience and humility tend to go along with meek characteristics. Meek people tend to let the light of Jesus be what shines in their lives. They have no need to boast or be the center of attention. Meek people tend to put others ahead of themselves.
Jesus called himself meek, lowly, gentle and humble.
Matthew 11:29 "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
Sadly, we live in a world that looks at meekness as a flaw not a gift. This world is filled with greed, power, selfishness and the need to own everything which is opposite of serving others and living a peaceful, quiet life. But this is not the world we will inherit. This world will end and the new earth will be the home of those who called Jesus their Lord and savior. We will inherit the new earth!
Being meek does not mean cowardice, timidity, or a lack of personal confidence. Being meek means that you make a choice to restrain anger, forego selfish aggression, and act with deliberate, calm gentleness. Being meek means you are walking the earth as a personal image of Jesus Christ. Meekness is strength! Be meek in all that you do! Jesus sees you!
