John 1:36 "And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”
Behold is a word used thousands of times in the King James Version and the New King James Version of the Bible and means to see, look, consider, appear, perceive, regard, and other definitions. We rarely use the word behold in the world today but what a beautiful word it is. We behold the beauty on earth and we say, “Wow!” We behold a miracle and we say, “Awesome!”
How can we explain what it is like to “Behold the Lamb of God” to someone who does not know Him? Can we easily explain who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for us by paying the price for our salvation from sin? Behold, He who takes away the sin of the world! We should be able to say, “I was lost but now I am found! I was found by God the Son!” Don’t we want all of those we love to be able to behold the Lamb of God. The answer is yes, of course.
When we behold the Lamb of God we see Him. We see Him with our spiritual eyes, and we see Him in our everyday life. We behold His beauty and light in a dark world where things are messy and filthy. When we behold our Father God, we know He has chosen us out of this present darkness into His glorious light. We can behold Him, we look for Him and see Him, and we can know Him as we seek Him with praises and glory on our lips. Behold, He is with us.
Luke 1:31-32 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David."
What a great miracle that we are able to behold the Lamb of God, Jesus, as we celebrate His birth and give Him all glory and praise for loving us enough to be born as a human infant and then decades later to die on a cross to become that final sacrifice to save us.
Behold, He is coming back soon, and we will behold Him for all eternity. Hallelujah and Amen.
