James 1:4 "And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything."
Let’s stop right off and think about what it means to complete something. It means that we have finalized whatever the task may have been. Every task we undertake we have a vision in our mind of the time when the project will be complete and what it will look like. We make plans and then if all goes well, we complete it. No one undertakes something without thinking about the final completed thing.
James tells us at the very beginning of this verse we will have to endure or have patience in order for the perfect completion of God’s work in us. The very next, Verse 5, he speaks of wisdom. God wants us to be perfect and He wants that to be a complete understanding and knowledge of who He is and what He does for those who choose to walk with Him and seek Him. The only way to perfection and completion is through Jesus.
Think about the last time you took a timed test. When and if you got to the end of the test before the timer went off you signed with relief that you had completed it before not after the buzzer. God wants us to be complete in wisdom, knowledge and understanding for everything in our lives. Each one of us have many different tests happening all the time. There are different time frames for completion of each test. Some shorter and some longer. Since we do not know when the timer or buzzer for the end of our lives will go off God is rooting for us to understand the perfect completion He is building in us. He wants to be so planted firmly in our spirit that we know Him fully and completely. No doubts. No fear. Only love and gratitude.
James 1:12 "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."
What a glorious promise awaits us as each day we draw closer to being perfect and complete in the Lord. As we stand the test of time the day will come when we stand before our King Jesus and He will place the crown of life on our head.
We will be complete and we will be perfect in His eyes.
