FAVOR: God's Shield of Protection

Psalm 5:12 "Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield."

When is the last time you pulled into a full parking lot only to have a car near the front start pulling out? God’s favor! How about the grocery store, filled with lines, then a clerk comes back from lunch, opens her checkout and calls you over? God’s favor? When you're in busy traffic the lights all seem to turn green for you so that you are not late for work? God’s favor, again! People of the world say these are only a coincidence, but are they? Why would they not be favor from our Lord who loves us so much that He died for us? He is not going to withhold any blessing He sees fit.

When we give the glory to the Lord for all things, including both big and small favors He sees our heart and knows the true thankfulness we have. He knows when we need that extra bit of money to cover us. He knows the medical test results and exactly what is going on in our bodies. He understands our fears and concerns in all areas of life and will lay His favor of added trust, hope and joy for the journey.

The favor of God is a sign of His delight in us. He shows us an extra measure of His love in many ways but His favor is always so amazing. Open signs of favor do not happen all of the time. Favor happens in His timing and His ways. There are times we pray and hope for an added measure of favor to get us through the situation but it does not seem to come. In reality, His favor is upon us every single moment of every single day. Every breath we breathe is due to the favor of our Lord and Savior. Each year of our life is the favor of God.

Jesus went to the cross in favor of each of us. He accepted the price and took it upon Himself to be the sacrifice for our sin. He died for us. He did this ultimate favor that spared our souls from eternal punishment. There is nothing we can do to repay Him for this favor, this gift, besides our love, devotion, faith, and trust.

What we can do is to go and tell others of Jesus and His favor for those who follow after Him. Those who acknowledge and know who He is and what He did for His children and still does in the lives of His children today are surrounded by his favor which is a shield and a blessing. All glory to God!
