Offering - Wednesday Weekly Word

ree

Psalm 96:8 "Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts."

Why does God want us to bring Him and offering when He owns everything? In Psalm 50:10 the Lord tells us “For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills.”

There is nothing we own or hold in our possession that He has not placed in our trust to hold for Him. So why does He want an offering from us?

It is a matter of love and obedience. It is taking the focus off of us. We put our trust in Jesus and stop trusting things to make us happy and fulfilled. Many of us hear “offering” and automatically think, money. Financial donation. But we know there are some who do not have a dollar to give. They are stretched to the very limit financially. This offering the Lord is asking for is not always a financial offering. It can be but many times it is simply an offering of self.

When we bring ourselves to Him, we offer our hearts and lives to Him. We offer ourselves to serve Him and He asks us to serve others. In the Old Testament the Israelite’s had to offer animal sacrifices year after year in order to pay the price for their sins. When Jesus came the animal sacrifice ended as the offering for sin. He gave His blood and His life for that one final offering. He was the sin offering for all who would come to Him and accept Him as Messiah.

Hebrews 10:14 "For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified."

Bring yourself as an offering before the alter of the Lord and watch what He does for you. He will change your heart and change your life.
