SERVING wholeheartedly - Ephesians 6:7

ree

Ephesians 6:7 "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people"

In a couple of weeks, we will celebrate Thanksgiving, and many homes will be filled with family and friends whom we will serve a wonderful, beautiful banquet table of food to. We look forward to this celebration and think of our favorite foods that will be cooked and served. Many will also go to restaurants and be served there. Others will go to the places that serve the homeless or those who are destitute. Serving is what we do as we give thanks.

Jesus called himself a servant and he told others to go out and serve. There are so many different kinds of ways we can serve others, and we should always be looking for ways to serve and help. Sometimes it is as simple as a prayer or a financial gift. Sometimes it is going out on a mission trip to build a school in a foreign country. Sometimes it is offering to mow a lawn, grocery shop for a friend who is unable to go out, bake a casserole for the new mother, or be there to listen to the fears of those in the hospital. Each time we serve someone it should be done with a grateful and cheerful heart.

When we say thank you, you’re welcome, please, I’m sorry and other kind words this is also another way we serve Jesus. Hold the door for the older person or the one whose arms are full of things or just hold the door and let the other person pass through before you. Thinking of others first is one of the best ways to serve.

In Joshua 24:15 Joshua tells the people as they are settling into the Promised Land after wandering the desert for 40 years; “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Serving others is the best way to serve the Lord and serving him is the most important thing we do while we live.
